Cat Stats: Postseason

In the John Fox era (2002-2005), the Panthers are one of just four teams with multiple appearances in conference championship games. Philadelphia has three, while Carolina, New England and Pittsburgh each have two. Only eight teams total have played in a conference championship in that time frame.

With four postseason road victories, Fox trails only Tom Landry (seven) and Joe Gibbs (five) in that category.

*Steve Smith established an NFL record with 27 receptions in a postseason, surpassing the previous mark of 23 by Anthony Carter (Minnesota) in the 1987 postseason.

* Smith has averaged 105.6 yards receiving in seven career playoff games, the most receiving yards per game in postseason history (minimum five games).

* Smith became the first player in NFL playoff history to score a touchdown on a run, pass, and punt return in the same postseason.

* Smith joined Tony Nathan and Jerry Rice as the only players to post 10 or more receptions in consecutive postseason games after hauling in 10 at New York and 12 at Chicago.

* Quarterback Jake Delhomme has the third-highest postseason passer rating in NFL history. After seven games his 95.0 rating puts him behind only Bart Starr (104.8) and Joe Montana (95.6). Delhomme has completed 113-of-192 passes for 1,642 yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions in those seven games.

* Kicker John Kasay has made 21-of-23 field goal attempts in the postseason, an accuracy rate of 91.3. That is second only to Martin Gramatica (91.7) in NFL history.

* With four consecutive road playoff victories, the Panthers tied an NFL record previously accomplished by Dallas from 1975 to 1981.

* Carolina has the second highest postseason winning percentage (.667) in the NFL at 6-3, trailing only the Baltimore Ravens (.714), who are 5-2.

* Carolina has made it to the NFC Championship in all three of its playoff appearances. The Panthers are the only NFL team that has won at least one game in all of its playoff appearances.

* The Panthers are the second-fastest expansion team to reach the conference championship game three times. Only Miami, which made its third conference championship appearance in its eighth season of existence, did so sooner. The Dolphins posted the NFL's only undefeated campaign in just their seventh season.

* The only other expansion team to even make the conference championship game three times is Tampa Bay, which took 27 years to reach its third game.

* The Panthers have scored 29 points just once in 176 regular season games, but strangely they have hit that number four times in seven postseason games under John Fox.

* The Panthers have worn their white uniforms in all nine postseason games.
