Cardinals' Rackers gets extension

TEMPE, Ariz. (Nov. 8, 2005) -- The Arizona Cardinals gave NFL scoring leader Neil Rackers a four-year contact extension.

Kicker Rackers is 26 for 26 in field-goal attempts this season, with half coming from 40-plus yards. He leads the league with 86 points and 20 touchbacks.

His 26 straight field goals are a team record. Rackers needs four field goals to match the team record for most in a season, set in 1995 by Greg Davis.

Rackers joined the Cardinals as a free agent in 2003. He was a sixth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2000. In 79 games, Rackers has made 101 of 134 field goal tries
Rackers is on pace to break the league record for field goals in a season. Olindo Mare kicked 39 for Miami in 1999 and Jeff Wilkins matched that number for St. Louis in 2003. Mare was 25 of 27 and Wilkins 16 of 18 after seven games.

He has a ways to go for the NFL record of consecutive field gaols made. Mike Vanderjagt kicked 42 straight for Indianapolis from 2002-2004.
